Kanhachalai Amulet, Wat Nong Aor, Ratchaburi B.E. 2563, blessed by Luang Pho Saiyachon
Description
Kanhachalai is an auspicious object created by Wat Nong Aor in Ratchaburi during B.E. 2563, with Luang Pho Saiyachon chanting and blessing it. The amulet is crafted in the form of Kanha and Chali, two young children from the Vessantara Jataka. Kanha and Chali are the daughter and son of Vessantara and Queen Madri. Their story plays an important role in the MahaVessantara Jataka, which tells of Vessantara's practice of the perfection of generosity. The creation of Kanhachalai as an auspicious object is found in many Buddhist traditions, typically made as a pair of young children. This differs from golden children (kumarn thong), which have a different origin and creation principles, so Kanhachalai should not be directly called a golden child. Followers of Kanhachalai amulets traditionally associate them with compassion, trade, good fortune, and prosperity.
