Luang Pu Tuad, also known as Luang Pu Tuad the Treader of Sweet Water, was an esteemed Buddhist elder who achieved great renown throughout Southern Thailand. His veneration is closely connected to the regions of Songkhla, Pattani, and Wat Chang Hai, and he has been deeply respected across generations. According to historical accounts, Luang Pu Tuad's birth name was Pu. He was born in Songkhla Province during the Ayutthaya period. As he grew, he studied Buddhist teachings extensively and traveled to various monasteries for further study before taking on his significant role in Southern Thai Buddhism. The event that made Luang Pu Tuad most famous is known as the "Treader of Sweet Water" miracle. According to legend, during a sea voyage when fresh water became scarce, Luang Pu Tuad transformed a section of seawater into fresh water suitable for drinking. This miraculous event became the origin of his distinctive epithet, which has been used to refer to him to the present day. Luang Pu Tuad was also closely associated with Wat Chang Hai in Pattani Province, which later became an important center of his veneration.
