Chao Suea Coin, Wat Bowornnivet, Bangkok, B.E. 2536, Nuad Loha, Somdet Phra Yan Sangworn

Description

Somdet Phra Yan Sangworn, the 19th Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, was born on October 3, B.E. 2456, in Kanchanaburi Province under his birth name Charoen Kachawat. He was ordained in B.E. 2476 and studied Buddhist scriptures while practising fundamental monastic discipline. He was closely connected to Wat Bowornnivet and was later appointed as the temple's abbot. He played an important role in education, the propagation of Buddhism, and work within the Thai Sangha. In B.E. 2531, he was elevated to the position of Supreme Patriarch. He held this position for many years and was widely revered as a great elder. Many amulets and sacred objects were created during his tenure as Supreme Patriarch in various forms and occasions. The Chao Suea Coin from Wat Bowornnivet, B.E. 2536, in nuad loha material, is one of the sacred objects connected to the temple and Somdet Phra Yan Sangworn. Somdet Phra Yan Sangworn passed away on October 24.
