Phra Sum Ruean Kaew Wat Rajborana Ayutthaya
Description
Phra Sum Rueang Kaew Khang Met from Wat Rajburanam, Ayutthaya. The Phra Sum Rueang Kaew Khang Met is one of the amulets discovered from Wat Rajburanam in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, an important archaeological site from the Ayutthaya period built during the reign of Somdet Phra Borom Racha Athiraj the 2nd (Chao Sam Phraya). Wat Rajburanam is widely known from the discovery of many amulets and archaeological objects within the main prang, which reflects the art and beliefs of the Ayutthaya period. The Phra Sum Rueang Kaew Khang Met mold is characterized by an image of Buddha in a seated position within a glass-like shrine with beads adorning the sides, which is the origin of the name used by amulet collectors. Due to its age tracing back to the Ayutthaya period, the amulets from Wat Rajburanam are studied as archaeological artifacts.
