Description

This water turtle wealth-calling coin (Hrian Nam Tao Riak Sai) was created in B.E. 2533 by Luang Pu Liu Panno of Wat Rai Taeng Thong in Nakhon Pathom Province. Luang Pu Liu was a revered monk known for creating auspicious objects featuring sacred turtles (Paya Tao Ruean), which became his distinctive signature. This amulet is among the most extensively studied pieces in amulet collecting circles. The coin's design features a water turtle form, or "Nam Tao" as collectors call it — a unique fusion combining the sacred turtle with the water droplet shape. This represents a symbol found in both Chinese and Thai art and beliefs for centuries. This particular edition displays a distinctly different form from other turtle amulets created by Luang Pu Liu. Luang Pu Liu (B.E. 2451–2543) was the former abbot of Wat Rai Taeng Thong and played a crucial role in developing the temple and promoting sacred turtles until they became renowned nationwide. His auspicious objects were created in multiple editions throughout his lifetime, with each version containing unique details.
